Okay, so yeah, translations…

Today’s Old Testament reading was in Genesis 24, regarding Abraham sending his servant to go and get a wife for Isaac. It’s always been a rather odd concept for the servant to place his hand under Abraham’s thigh.  So, go to the source, right?  Yeah, no.  If you’re interested in the actual translation, feel free to read this.  It’s eye-opening, and really makes you wish they had the Bible at that point, to have been able to swear on something else holy.  But the commentary is interesting.

Makes you wonder how one swore holy oaths in other religions…
